Contest Winners

I was honored with several contest winners at the 2023 San Diego Fair. Here are some of them.

Mountain Revealed, San Diego, November 2019
1st Place in Waterscapes
This was a magical morning. I was thoroughly enjoying taking photos of these willow in the lake shrouded in fog. As the morning progressed, the fog cleared, revealing the snow covered mountains above the low-lying clouds. This is part of collection called Winter Willows which you can see here.
Afternoon Storm, Eastern Sierra Mountains, June 2020
3rd Place in Waterscapes
Bend in the River, Owens River Valley in the Eastern Sierra, December 2019
1st Place in Winter
This is an often photographed scene. I was determined to figure out where it was taken. It took me several years and multiple trips to the Eastern Sierra. Using google maps and the what the mountains looked like as I drove by, I was finally able to figure it out. It was a fun puzzle to solve.
Woodland Symphony, Del Norte Redwoods State Park, June 2021
3rd Place in Timeless
Dunality, Death Valley National Park, January 2022
4th Place in Timeless
Snow and Lake, San Diego, November 2019
Honorable Mention

Twisted Stone #4 – Dark Chambers

This is my final post of the series Twisted Stone. On this day we visited two slot canyons near Page, Arizona. The first one didn’t inspire us, but the second was wonderful. We loved Antelope Canyon-X. A Navajo guide is required to see these slot canyons and we signed up for the “photo tour” that allowed us to bring our tripods and spend 3 hours in each canyon. Antelope Canyon-X was relatively short, but the reflected light and patterns in the stone were captivating.
