Desert Light

This June I traveled to southern Utah to brush up on night/milky way photography. I signed up for two outings with Action Photo Tours and also did a few hikes on my own.

I visited one of my favorite slot canyons. I knew the colors could be beautiful in a slot canyon as light reflects off the walls, but I learned how fickle these fleeting moments can be as I spent the day hiking and observing. I watched as shafts of light trickled down one column of rock, seeming to light it on fire, only to fade away as the sun shifted above.

It was close to midnight. This next photo is a composite with each of us taking turns getting in the shot. I love how the Milky Way streams through the center of the alcove. It was a beautiful warm desert evening!
