Waterfalls

I took a road trip back in late May this year. There were three main areas that I visited on that trip. The first was a few days at two different waterfalls in northern California between Mt. Shasta and Lassen National Park. That is the focus of this blog post. The others were stops along the southern Oregon coast and the redwood coast of northern California.

My first stop was at Burney Falls. I used the 100-400mm lens to zoom in close and capture the details of the falling water.

The second waterfall that I visited was Middle McCloud Falls. I first hiked all the way to the bottom of the canyon and falls, but I didn’t find any good compositions there. After sunset I hike back to the top of the canyon. I was scouting a view looking down on the waterfall far below. As I looked around me, I noticed the bronchial-like skeleton of a dead manzanita clinging to the edge of the canyon. This turned out to be my favorite shot for this set. Here is the manzanita.

Remnants – I was out taking photos of a waterfall on the edge of a canyon at dusk when the remnants of this tree caught my attention. It seemed to glow in the twilight.

  1. Excellent shots. It’s interesting how the branches of the manzanita mimic the waterfall shape just above. I love the vantage point and overhead view of your middle falls shot … a wonderful composition!
