Scotland #4 – Isle of Skye

We visited the Quiraing a second time, this time under very dramatic conditions. We arrived around sunrise, with clouds obscuring the horizon and strong winds nearly knocking us over. We had to hold onto the tripod constantly. We set up in one spot and waited, but as rain started to approach, we decided to move farther down the trail. Just as we did, the light began breaking through the clouds, creating a spectacular display that lasted for about two hours. Here are some shots we captured.

The formations of the Quiraing are known as a landslip, and you can see how the land appears to be slipping toward the valley below. They say it shifts about 1 cm each year.

On our last full day on the Isle of Skye, the morning was rainy, but we were lucky to get a break in the weather by afternoon. We visited the Fairy Pools, where there were many waterfalls scattered over a few miles. The wind was very strong and nearly knocked us over several times.

As we drove back to Edinburgh, the strong winds continued, along with scattered showers. Here are some shots we captured along the way.
